  • f your pet requires extra support to feel comfortable during veterinary visits, that’s where True Friend can assist!

We collaborate closely with your primary veterinarian to provide additional care and support, especially for pets who may be anxious or need extra attention. While your primary care veterinarian handles services such as radiographs (x-rays), surgeries, dental cleanings, and other procedures that can’t be performed at home, True Friend focuses on your pet’s comfort and well-being.

Our role is to examine your pet, develop a tailored treatment plan, and work alongside your primary veterinarian to ensure a seamless experience. This way, your pet will be well-prepared and comfortable for any additional care they may need from your primary veterinarian.

 In-Home Euthanasia

  • In-home euthanasia allows your pet to pass peacefully in their familiar environment, surrounded by their loved ones. Prior to the appointment, Dr. Peeler or a True Friend team member will discuss the details with you, ensuring you understand the process and have arranged for aftercare. Upon arrival, Dr. Peeler will spend time getting to know you and your pet, explain the euthanasia procedure, and make sure both you and your pet are comfortable before proceeding. The goal is to provide a serene and compassionate experience for both you and your pet.

    1. Reach Out Early: Contact us if you think in-home euthanasia may be right for your dog, even if it is not yet time. It is never too early! Early communication allows us to support you and guide you through each step of this emotional process.

    2. Request a pre-appointment consult: If you are in need of counseling during this process, please let us know and request a free 15 minute remote quality of life consult. We can call you to walk you through this difficult process, and help with decision making.

    3. Schedule Your Appointment: Please send us a text or submit a request through our website. We are often able to offer evening and weekend appointments at no extra cost to accommodate your needs. Appointment availability is based on Dr. Peeler's schedule, so please text us for availability information.

    4. Arrange Aftercare: We are here to help guide your aftercare choices, though we allow each client the power to chose their aftercare provider, ensuring they are educated of all their options.
For the easiest care, we recommend Faithful Companion (615) 610-7777 for cremation services. They provide personal pick up, a selection of urns and sentimental items, and will return your loved one to you within 24 hours. Please schedule their pickup 1-2 hours after our appointment time to allow ample time.
If you prefer burial, please let us know and consult local regulations before our arrival.

    5. Prepare for Our Arrival: Set up a calm and comfortable space for your pet in their preferred area (indoor, outdoor, porch, etc.), and include their favorite things -- toys, people, or other animals. If your pet is still eating, please bring their favorite treats & save some for us to give during the appointment -- hint: this is the perfect time for chocolate.
Inform us of any specific ways your pet likes to be approached so that Dr. Peeler can ensure they feel at ease.

    6. Focus on Your Pet: Dr. Peeler will manage all aspects of the appointment, allowing you to focus on providing comfort to your pet. She will take the necessary time to ensure both you and your pet are at peace with your decision and the process.

  • This is a very personal decision. Dr. Peeler recommends that this decision is made on a case by case basis. Please request a free pre-appointment call to discuss if you are unsure.

  • Yes, most medications prescribed to your pet by a veterinarian are okay to give prior to a euthanasia appointment.

Please contact us if your pet has been taking CBD long term and do not administer any medications not prescribed to them.

  • That is totally normal. This is a difficult decision that does not come naturally to anyone. Please reach out to us to discuss a pre-appointment consultation. We will also discuss the decision prior to your appointment.

  • We do not charge booking fees, and we do not charge cancellation fees. We believe in taking care of pets and their people foremost, and providing grace and empathy for these situations. If you need to cancel your appointment for any reason, including death of your pet, please message us promptly.

Veterinary Care Consultations

  • Having two veterinarians involved can provide a more comprehensive approach to your pet’s care. Your primary veterinarian focuses on the hands-on, day-to-day medical care and treatment. Our Veterinary Care Consultations offer additional expertise and guidance, particularly for complex or difficult cases. This collaboration ensures that you receive well-rounded advice and support tailored to your pet’s specific needs and your goals.

    1. Comprehensive Insight: We provide a detailed analysis of your pet’s condition, helping to clarify complex medical information and offering a broader perspective on treatment options

    2. Informed Decision-Making: By understanding your goals and preferences, we help tailor a care plan that aligns with your wishes, reducing the likelihood of unnecessary or unwanted diagnostic tests.

    3. Expert Guidance: Our service brings additional specialized knowledge to your pet’s care, ensuring that all possible options and outcomes are considered.

    4. Whole-Family Approach: We work with your primary veterinarian to create a cohesive care plan, integrating their hands-on treatment with our strategic advice. We also consider your family's needs and limitations, optimizing your pet's care.

  • By providing detailed consultations based on your goals and your pet’s condition, we help to focus on the most relevant and beneficial diagnostic tests and treatments. This targeted approach minimizes the likelihood of performing tests or procedures that may not contribute to improving your pet’s quality of life or may not align with your preferences, ultimately saving you time and money.

The cost of our service reflects the value of expert guidance and the comprehensive support we provide. By helping you make informed decisions, we aim to:

This complete picture allows you to make well-informed decisions about your pet’s care, ensuring that every aspect is considered.
